About CryptoRootsMX

From CryptoRootsMX

CryptoRootsMX is a cultural and genealogical initiative led by Yaide S. García, whose lineage descends from a tightly intermarried network of Sephardic mining families rooted in Zacatecas, Mexico, and the mining corridor of Súchil and Nombre de Dios, Durango, including the Garza, Treviño, Figueroa, Velasco, Ávila, Escobedo, Cadena, Maluenda, Carbajal, Pacho, Oñate, Saavedra, Bocanegra, Zúñiga, Flores, De la Torre, Estrada, Salazar, Alarcón, Caraisco, and Caballería families.

CryptoRootsMX is dedicated to uncovering and preserving the stories of Mexico’s hidden Sephardic Jewish heritage. Through archival research, family histories, and community collaboration, the project traces the roots of crypto-Jewish families who shaped the spiritual, cultural, and economic fabric of these mining regions and their surrounding communities.

The aim of the project is to help extended family members and descendants recognize shared patterns of ancestry, endogamy, and migration by presenting archival evidence in a clear, navigable, and transparent way.

Support for CryptoRootsMX directly sustains this work, including access to archival documents, funding independent genealogists, and collaborating with subject-matter experts capable of reading and interpreting complex or illegible historical records. Contributions also help expand educational resources and reconnect descendants with a Sephardic legacy that was once intentionally kept in the shadows.
